Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Connected to Wide Receiver Rashee Rice

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.

The organization omitted the name of the player specifically in their announcement and said they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete directly, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Currently Not on File

No police reports were on file in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.

Player's Prior Off-Field Troubles

Rice missed the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his role in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first occasion in a ten-year span.
